New York City 2009: Day 1

Wow. How much changes in 2 years. I guess it was naive of me to think that a big city like NYC would stay the same for two years, but it really threw me... More on that later. I'm gonna try to blog every night this week. I realize that it might be improbable, but I'm going to try. Usually when I visit places it's nice to keep a journal. Usually every year that I go to Madison, I journal. So, here are the days events.

After getting maybe an hour of sleep, I left for the cities at 3 am. Dad was kind enough to drive me, so I was able to at least sleep in the car. I got to the airport checked in, and the whole flight went pretty much without a hitch. I had a connecting flight in Milwaukee, and once I got on the plane to NYC I was OUT like a light. I pretty much passed out for the entire flight. My plan was to come up to Jeff's apartment and take a nap. Two pretty bizarre things happened however. First involved my cab ride. Jeff had told me that the fare was gonna be around 15 bucks with tip. However, it seemed as though the cab driver took some roundabout route, which drove the fare up to 20.20, which was not good because I only had a 20 dollar bill. The driver was very kind, and let me just pay my $20 however. I don't think that all cab drivers would have done this. Then after that, I got up Jeff's apartment, found his spare key, and turned it. It didn't go. I tried multiple times, and called Jeff who said that the key should work. It did not however, which really sucked. I ended up hiding my suitcase outside of Jeff's and heading over to Maggie's to take a nap. On my way over my laptop bag broke. And I don't mean in the way that one of the pins came unscrewed. I mean, a piece literally snapped in two! In the middle of the road. It was kind of a rocky start to my trip! I kinda felt as though I was getting signs that I shouldn't be here. I still don't quite know what to think.

Once I got to Maggie's things became much easier. I visited with her for a while, and after a bit I passed out on her couch, though not thinking that I was sleeping that hard. Apparently I was snoring... hmmm. I then left, and had coffee with Tim Bartlett, another Pioneer Playhouser from this summer. We sat in Times Square and drank our delicious Starbucks drinks. Yes, you heard me right, we SAT in Times Square! Yes in the two years I've been gone, much has changed. Virgin Records has closed, a new TKTS booth has been erected, and most importantly a good chunk of the times square street has been converted into a walkway/patio area. It just looks SO different!

Coffee with Tim was lots of fun. We talked about how things after college could get pretty lonely. It was nice to hear someone echo the same sentiment that I had been feeling. It's interesting. This summer, Tim and I didn't necessarily get along. If I had to use any word to describe our relationship, it would be one of indifference. But I had SUCH a good time talking! After our coffee, I headed out to pizza with Angie and Chris. These two had yet ANOTHER perspective about what it's like to live in NYC. Honestly, I could see it in Angie's eyes: she is NOT happy here. She misses her friends, and isn't getting the work to make up for the fact that she's not living in Seattle with the big contingent of MSU folks that are out there. This makes me think that, in my decision on where to live, who is near by might be important! After pizza, I went to desert with Serena. She is doing amazingly. Her sublet is BEAUTIFUL! My goodness, I don't know how she got it, but she is supes lucky. And her show opens Friday, and she got me comp to the show! Serena was definitely an example of what happens if you are working. She didn't seem nearly as down trodden as Angie, or me for that matter. Hmm... all food for thought.

I honestly would write more, but gonna get up at a fairly decent hour tomorrow to go and audition for a touring children's production company! :) I'm nervous, and a little apprehensive, but I'll explain all that later.

Oh, also, I had a REALLY good iPod Shuffle day. Whilst in the subway: Another Hundred People. Walking around the city, Dreams and I Guess the Lord Must Be in New York City. There were others too, my poor brain just can't think anymore. Okay, sleep time now! More to come, I promise!

P.S. I ate a Times Square bagel today! YUM!

I Don't Know How To Properly Have Free Time

Seriously, I don't. Other than going to see movies and watching t.v. on my laptop, I haven't been doing anything these past couple days. It makes me feel weird. Like I should be enjoying it, but I don't. I think it's because other than Kelsey who's working during the day, I don't have anyone to hang out with up here. And really, what is the point of having the day off if you have no one to hang out with. Which brings me to my next point. I REALLY like the people who I'm doing Hamlet with. They're all great people, and good actors. And yet I've been feeling this slight disconnect from them. And then last night it hit me. For the past 4 years, I've been doing theatre with people that I see and hang out with outside of rehearsal EVERY DAY. Even this summer it was more so, because I lived with the people that I was doing shows with. In fact they were pretty much the ONLY people that I saw. So I'm thinking/hoping that connection will happen once we start performing, and staying in the same house. Yet another weird, bizzare aspect of post-graduate life.

For the record, if I wrote on here, every time that I think about things that I should write on here, I would ALWAYS be posting. I am constantly, particularly at work, thinking about various topics that I should blog about.

Note to self: Stop thinking so much :)

Addiction

I am an addict. And I don't mean in the typical way (Well I suppose I do... but well you'll see). I have an addictive personality. When I "get into" something I really "get into" it. According to my Dad, I have always been like this. When I was younger I would walk into the kitchen in every house that I went into, and look to see if they had an electric mixer. I would say Kitchenaide specifically, since that what my family has, but I don't know that it really mattered to me in my toddler mind set. I had a toy mixer that I played with. I called them all "min-er" Anyhow the point of that rambling was that I become addicted to various things. It all started with the "min-er" but soon moved on to: Cinderella, Mary Poppins, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast (or just all Fairy Tales, specifically Disney, in general,), Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, Peanuts comic strips, Musical Theatre, performing in theatre, movies, and buying dvd's. Looking back, I think that this aspect of my personality is what makes it so hard to get over relationships. I become almost addicted to the guy I'm dating. And that's not a good thing for him or me. But it happens. My most recent addiction is clothing. I've never been much of a clothes horse, and have always considered this an extremely good thing. I've usually spent my hard earned cash on DVD's and have been content to do so. But lately, ever since seeing Matthew Morrison's outfits in "Glee" to be precise, I have been going CRAZY buying clothes. I've barely bought a single movie or television season since returning from Kentucky this summer. Looking back I think that going to England may have had something to do with my sudden addiction to clothing. All of a sudden I'm going online looking for some specific item of clothing that I feel I really need. But I need to be done! That's the other thing about my addictions: I recognize them pretty easily. So though I desperately want a nice cardigan sweater, and few more ties, I am cutting myself off. I'm going to use my ability to rationalize in order to stop myself from buying any more clothes. Alright, now that I've put that out there, I can let it go.

Often times when I am participating in day to day life, I'll often think "Oh! I should blog about that". But then I forget or I never get around to it. I've not thought of any of these things to share here, but I thought I would mention something.

I need to get to sleep. But quickly before I do, I for some reason, usually only clean if it's after 3 am. Why is that? Hmmm... something to muse upon.

Late Night Ramble Promise

I will write here soon. I make this promise to myself, that I will write here soon! Wow, it's really easy to write in this box. And that's pretty awesome to me. But I really need to stop now, close the computer and get to bed, as I work in the morning. Okay. Sleep. Now.

This ALWAYS Happens

I mean what my title says. This always happens. Ever since I was a young child, things like this have been happening. I get an idea in my head, usually influenced by something or someone, and I just can't get it out until I do it. For now, let's blame it on Julie Powell and Carrie Bradshaw. They're the reason I've started this. But first a bit of history.

Flashback to (as he checks his old files) July 27th 2005. *Insert Wayne's World 'doodley doo' here* To quote from the first "journal entry": ... well actually I'm not going to quote from the first journal entry, because what I thought was there wasn't. Anyhow, suffice to say, I've been journaling on and off ever since this point (and before... anyone remember Xanga?) because of Carrie Bradshaw and SATC. That summer I was right in the midst of re watching the series I believe. Watching the show and hearing Carrie's column really inspired me to write I guess. My history with journaling is spotty at best, and I've usually done it when I'm in Madison, or I've been dumped.

Flash forward to August 2009, pretty much 4 years exactly since that fateful journal entry. The blame is now transferred from Carrie Bradshaw to Julie Powell. I went last Saturday and saw the film Julie & Julia. While listening to all of the voice overs in that film, I was very much inspired to write a blog. I put it out of my mind, and decided to read the book that the movie was based upon. Well that just made the want to write worse. So here we are. I don't know if I'll actually keep this up and it will become a regular occurrence. I'd like it to. I'm not in school anymore, so that might free up some time to write/ this would probably be good for me, so that I don't let my writing skills completely deteriorate. However, I am notorious (amongst myself I suppose) for starting projects and just letting them lapse. So, whether or not this will continue will be interesting to see.

A bit about me just to record this point in my life:

My name is Micah J.L. Kronlokken. I am 22 years old on the verge of turning 23 in 12 days. I am currently living in Danville, KY but only for 4 more days! I will then return to the place where my heart truly resides: North Mankato, MN. I am an Actor, first and foremost (thank you Leslie Easterbrook). I moonlight as a bookseller at Barnes and Noble in Mankato, a job that I've had for 6 almost 7 years now (!). I have two parents, who are not divorced, Rachel and David, and a little brother named Isaac, who really isn't so little anymore, as he will turn 18 in October. As an actor, I am employed (for 4 more days) by the Pioneer Playhouse in Danville, KY. The Playhouse is one of the oldest outdoor theatres in the U.S. and just celebrated it's 60th season. The most recent movie I watched: Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Currently reading: Julie & Julia by Julie Powell. I am currently sitting at The Hub, writing this eating granola and vanilla yogurt. I'm writing a blog. I feel grown-up.

I will now return to my regularly scheduled programing of Granola and reading. We'll see if I continue this at all. Just as it always happens that I start these things, it also ALWAYS happens that I stop. We'll see if I can keep this up.

Also, I don't know how I feel about that title. We'll see...

Also, also, I love parenthesis and ellipses, and semantics.
